The weather has started to cool off in Alabama and the fall crappie season is getting underway! We have been in the summer heat for the last several months and we have just had the first cold front of the season move through the area. We are having highs around 80 with low temperatures near 50! This will start to cool the water and that will get the crappie active and feeding up for winter. We were out earlier this week on a four hour morning trip and finished with 22 keepers. That was a good day but hopefully with these cooler temperatures we will see those numbers start to climb. The fall is an excellent time to fish and you can use multiple techniques to catch crappie. Starting in October, we can shoot jigs under docks or vertical fish live bait along the river ledges. As we move into November and December we can still vertical fish with live bait but late in the season we can usually start catching fish trolling. The fall season is getting underway now and will continue to improve as we get into the cooler days ahead. We still have a few days open so if you want to get in on some great fishing action give me a call ASAP to get your dates reserved! During the fall of the year, use caution on Weiss Lake due to the lower water levels. This is the last year that Alabama Power will drop the lake six feet in the winter, Starting in the fall of 2022, the water will only be dropped three feet for the winter months. So just use caution when you are out running around the lake and try to stay in the river and creek channels. Also, remember there is a ten inch size limit on crappie on Weiss Lake and the daily creel limit is 30 per person, per day! The weather is cooling down so make plans to get out and enjoy some great fishing! See ya' on the Water!
