Summer Heat!

Summer Heat!

August 04, 2021 by

We are now in the middle of some of the hottest weather of the year and the fishing has slowed! The crappie fishing has slowed down on Weiss Lake but it always does this time of year due to the heat. With temperatures soaring into the mid 90's and the humidity making it feel even worse it makes it tough to stay out on the lake very long. We have been out on the water doing some four hour early morning trips to beat the heat and catch a few fish. We have had stringers ranging from 4 or 5 all the way up to the 25+ keepers and catching a lot of small fish as well. The higher the sun gets the slower the fishing becomes. The ones we are catching are deep in the brush out on the river and creek ledges and the bite is really lite. The crappie are just now chasing anything right now. The key to catching them is a slow presentation with live bait. All of that will start to change in the next few weeks as we get closer to the fall fishing season. The fall season starts in late September and continues into December. Crappie will really become active as the water temperatures start dropping and they start feeding up for winter. During the fall we will be able to catch them using a variety of methods including dock shooting, vertical fishing the ledges as well as trolling. We are beginning to book up for the fall crappie season so if you are wanting to plan a trip give me a call ASAP to get your dates reserved! Remember there is a ten inch size limit on crappie on Weiss Lake and the daily creel limit is 30 per person, per day! See Ya' on the Water!
