Merry Christmas to all from Weiss Lake Crappie Guides!
We are now entering the final month of the year and the crappie fishing is fantastic! We have been on the water a lot and have had some huge stringers of crappie over the last week. The water temperatures are falling, the lake level is dropping and the fish have moved out on the creek and river channel ledges. Right now you can catch fish using a variety of methods. We have caught them long line trolling, shooting deep docks as well as vertical fishing the ledges. If you troll or shoot docks then jigs are the way to go. If you head for the ledges then you want to use live bait. The key has been to move along the ledges using your electronics to locate the stumps and brush. When you find the structure, you find the crappie! The water temperature is now around 50 degrees so the trolling and vertical methods should both work for the rest of the year! Use caution on the lake due to the low lake levels. Alabama Power is in the middle of their winter draw down and the lake is down about 4 feet and will drop a little more. The fish are biting and we still have a few dates in the month of December open including this weekend! The weather is supposed to be great with sunshine and highs in the 70's! Give us a call to get your dates reserved! Remember the daily creel limit is 30 per person, per day! See Ya' on the Water! Darrell
